Anti-erosion plantations are being created in the Central Balkan National Park

Employees of the Central Balkan National Park afforested part of the areas in the Troyan Park section as a measure against erosion in the protected area. On May saplings of the species Salix cinerea, Salix fragilis, Salix elaagnus, Salix caprea, Silesian willows, Salix silesiaca were planted close to eroded and damaged areas of the treeless zone of the park, which are subject to intensive grazing. These areas are not mapped under the Habitats Directive 92/43 ЕЕС. In the coming years, an assessment of the regenerative abilities of the individual species and their potential for restoration of such terrains is forthcoming.
