Central Balkan National Park Joined Volunteer Cleanup of Sokolna Mountain Hut

11 July 2026
Employees of Central Balkan National Park united around a shared mission – cleaning Sokolna Mountain Hut.

The results are already visible: what was once a neglected place has been transformed into a site with renewed potential and a promising future.

The park's Director, Georgi Krastev, also took part in the initiative. Expressing his enthusiasm, he shared his hope that the mountain hut will once again become a vibrant destination and thanked everyone who dedicated their time and effort to making this possible.

For the time being, Sokolna Mountain Hut will operate as an emergency shelter allowing visitors to stay in the dining area if needed. Once the necessary renovation works are completed, the sleeping quarters will also be reopened.

The long-term vision is for the hut to serve as a Control and Information Point for the Park Ranger Service, given its proximity to the Sokolan Reserve, where numerous poaching incidents have been prevented in recent years.

Although more work lies ahead, the first important step has already been taken. Caring for the Balkan Mountains also means preserving the places that welcome visitors, safeguard and  keep the region's history and its spirit alive.
