On June 5th we celebrate World Environment Day
05 June 2025

Today we celebrate World Environment Day and this year the focus is on the plastic that has become a comfortable part of our lives. Undoubtedly, plastics also bring their benefits – from energy savings to material conservation. However, the growing crisis of plastic pollution threatens both planetary and human well-being.
Nowadays, plastic is found in water, soil, air, it is even found in the food we eat and in ourselves – in our bodies, in the form of microplastics.
All this raises the concern of the world community and today, June 5, we all unite around the motto #BeatPlasticPollution. The idea of this day is to mobilize humanity, by implementing lasting and real solutions to combat plastic pollution, to protect the planet.
Such solutions include recycling, the creation of more durable plastic products, the use of similar products made from natural materials and those for repeated use, separate waste collection, the introduction of legal instruments to regulate the use and production of plastic products, a circular economy that closes the cycle and generates less waste products that end up in the environment, etc.
On the occasion of today's holiday, experts from the Central Balkan National Park Directorate will conduct thematic eco-activities with children from the St. St. Cyril and Methodius Primary School in Gabrovo, with which they will direct the attention of adolescents to the fight against plastic pollution and an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
World Environment Day has been celebrated since 1973. Just a year earlier, by a decision of the UN Conference on Environmental Problems, held in Stockholm, Sweden, the Declaration on the Environment was adopted. This is the first international treaty for the environmental protection of the Earth.
