Successful Operation Against Unauthorized Motor Vehicle Use in Central Balkan National Park

16 March 2026

On 15 March, in the area of Bukova Mogila locality within the Troyan Park Section, staff members of the Central Balkan National Park Directorate carried out a specialized operation to monitor compliance with the regulations in the protected area. The action was organized after repeated observations of traces indicating unauthorized access to the park.

During the operation, five violators were identified riding motorcycles along a road where motor vehicle access is prohibited under the provisions of the Management Plan of Central Balkan National Park. Following actions taken by the park rangers, two of the riders were detained on site, while the remaining three managed to leave the area before they could be apprehended.

During the operation, assistance from officers of the Troyan District Police Department was required in order to establish the identity of the detained individuals.

Such actions are part of the ongoing efforts of the management of the Central Balkan National Park Directorate to protect nature, limit unauthorized motor vehicle use, and prevent other illegal activities within the protected area. The movement of motorcycles and other motor vehicles outside the designated public access roads poses a serious threat to natural habitats, wildlife, and the tranquility of park visitors.

The Central Balkan National Park Directorate reminds visitors that compliance with established regulations is essential for preserving the natural environment of the park.
