The implementation of a project for Creating a comprehensive brand of the Central Balkan Biosphere Reserve begins
09 July 2021

The Central Balkan National Park Directorate received funding under the UNESCO Participation Program for the implementation of the project "Creating a comprehensive brand of the Central Balkan Biosphere Reserve".
The project will develop a recognizable brand of the expanded and renamed in 2017 Biosphere Reserve. The brand will contribute to the identification of local products and services, as well as to distinguish them from their counterparts on the market. This brand aims to enable the conquest of a unique market niche and create conditions for the local population to ensure long-term and sustainable livelihood. The project will increase the publicity of the Biosphere Reserve and its ideas, as well as the support of local communities.
The planned project activities are:
- Organizing a competition for choosing the logo and brand slogan of the Central Balkan Biosphere Reserve with the participation of UNESCO-associated schools.
- Brand registration.
- Conducting thematic meetings aimed at food and beverage producers and tourism service providers in order to develop criteria and a mechanism for awarding the Brand.
- Pilot introduction of the developed system and awarding of the Brand to selected candidates.
- Organizing an event / bazaar to promote local producers and service providers, as well as the goals, results and benefits of the project.
- Creating information materials.
The activities will be implemented on the territory of the transitional zone of the Biosphere Reserve – the municipalities of Karlovo, Troyan, Sevlievo, Anton and Pavel Banya.
The project implementation period is December 31, 2021, with the approved amount USD 16,000.
At the 29th session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Council for the Man and the Biosphere Program of UNESCO (MAB - ICC), held in the period 12 - 15 June 2017, a decision was made to declare the 4 Bulgarian Biosphere Reserves in compliance with the requirements and principles of the Seville Strategy. Among them is the Central Balkan Biosphere Reserve. This decision made it possible for Bulgaria to continue its participation in the Program, which has changed its focus from strict environmental protection to harmonious interaction between man and nature.
