The World Water Day is coming

20 March 2026
This Sunday, March 22, the world will mark World Water Day.The initiative aims to raise awareness of the global water crisis and to encourage the sustainable management of water resources.

World Water Day was established by the United Nations in 1993. Since then, each year a theme is chosen to highlight a different aspect of the water-related challenges humanity faces. Over the years, the initiative has grown into a global movement that brings together millions of people and organizations.

The theme for 2026 – “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows” – draws attention to the connection between access to safe water, sanitation, and gender equality.
It emphasizes that the lack of clean water affects everyone, but most severely women and girls, who are often responsible for securing water in their daily lives.

Water is vital for all forms of life. It sustains ecosystems, provides food, health, and economic development. Yet billions of people around the world still lack access to safe drinking water, and the problems are deepened by climate change and pollution.
Marking World Water Day is a call to action – both globally and locally. It reminds us that water is not an inexhaustible resource and that protecting it is the responsibility of each of us, for a healthier, fairer, and more sustainable future.

In connection with World Water Day, the Directorate of “Central Balkan National Park” will hold an educational campaign in the form of eco‑games with students from “Stefan Peshev” Primary School in Sevlievo.
