Two important dates on the conservation calendar are coming up

This week, on May 21, we celebrate the European Natura 2000 Day, and in 2025 we will celebrate 33 years since the creation of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas in the European Union.
In this regard, the Central Balkan National Park Directorate will hold eco-activities with children from the Raicho Karolev Secondary School in Gabrovo, aiming to enrich their knowledge about the European Ecological Network, biodiversity, protected areas, and species that are protected. Thus, the event will cover important topics for both the European Natura 2000 Day and the International Day for Biological Diversity, celebrated on May 22, which this year is held under the theme "Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development".
Throughout the country, the regional structures of the Ministry of Environment and Water, such as the Directorates of National Parks, will join the pan-European celebration of Natura 2000 Day with various activities and initiatives. Among them are information and educational campaigns, visits to protected areas, cleaning of terrain, releasing birds into the wild, lectures, trainings, open lessons, quizzes, discussions, exhibitions, creative competitions for children and students.
The Ministry shares that "the initiatives express commitment, present the management policy of the protected areas of the Natura 2000 network in Bulgaria and publicize the importance of the protection, maintenance and restoration of natural habitats and species subject to protection in the ecological network."
