Mountain peak Haidushka (Rebel’s) polyana Meadow
ABOUT HAIDUSHKA POLYANA
The Haidushka (Rebel’s) polyana Meadow is located just 2 km away from the town of Teteven. It is 955 m high and the very crag descends 50 m downhill. Its name is connected with the following story (legend). On St. George’s day the native-born rebels Dancho, Angel and Dimo Gagov climbed the peak to celebrate their devotion to the revolutionary activities. They roasted a lamb, which they took from the nearby sheep pens and they cried out loud. The echo resounded in the opposite rocks. The rebels wanted Assan Ali – the commander of the Teteven Turkish police office and the enslaved Bulgarians to hear them and know there are rebels in the Balkan. Since then Teteven was transformed into an important rebel and revolutionary center.
