The Zhultets peak
ABOUT THE PEAK
This peak marks the end of the rocky section of Stara Planina, which has a more Alpine appearance. To the West of it is located Kostenurkata. Zhultets is reached after a steep climbing of its western ridge called Brustovete. From Zhultets through the peak of Botev all the way to the site of Peeshti Skali, the main crest is covered by vast, almost flat pastures. The peak marks the end of the main crest trail Dobrila hut – Botev Peak, which follows the watershed crest between the Troyan and the Kalofer mountains. Given the high avalanche risk it is not recommended for hiking in winter. For the alpine hikers it is a traverse of IVb category. In nice, clear weather it offers unforgettable vistas towards Northern and Southern Bulgaria. It is a section of the Kom-Emine hiking trail.
Directly West of Zhultets is the peak of Mlechniya Chal, from which descends the winter marked trail and metal wire-line to Pleven hut. Right after the wire-line there is a small open plot, from which there is a beautiful vista to the sharp ridges of Zhultets. They are especially picturesque early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the sunshine is oblique.
