The Tuja Gorge

ABOUT THE TUJA RIVER


The Tuja River rises between mountain peaks Iurushka Gramada and Rusalka, right under the mountain ridge. With a total length of 26 km and a catchment area of 116 sq. km. it is the biggest left tributary of the Tundja River.
The upper flow of Tazha River shapes a deep and majestic river valley, which competes the Southern Djendem – the famous Tuja gorges that are 2.5 km long and 300 – 400 m deep. The rocky ridge of Kozya Stena is located in the gorge – it is among the most interesting in terms of botany sites in the Park. The incredibly picturesque The whole Tazha gorge is included in the boundaries of Djendema reserve.
The Tuja River takes many tributaries – the Penchovska River with the Penchovsko praskalo (waterfall) – 52 m, the Kademliisko dere with the Kademliisko praskalo – 72 m, the Babska Reka River with the Babsko praskalo – 54 m, Svetishka vada, Selska Reka River with the Tujansko praskalo – 65 m, Kazanka, etc.
