42 years since the declaration of the Northern Dzhendem Reserve

30 September 2025
Today, the Northern Dzhendem Reserve celebrates - one of the notable reserves in the Central Balkan National Park, which remains in the memory of the visitor with its impressive rock formations and secret forests.

The reserve combines inaccessible heights with accessible and pleasant tourist routes; impressive waterfalls with calm streams. It is both the kingdom of rocks and at the same time has an exceptional variety of plant - grass and shrub formations in its ridge parts, and its beech forests are dotted with coniferous species. Woven as if by harmoniously complementary contradictions, nature here manages to affect the senses and awaken the imagination, so that we ask ourselves - what awaits us next time?

A number of birds of prey nest among the rock crowns of the Reserve, bears, wolves and many other forest inhabitants roam its depths. It also provides a home for more than 15 species of bats, which build their colonies in the caves and rock crevices that the Reserve abounds with.

If you have not yet managed to experience the magic of "Northern Dzhendem", the upcoming autumn days are a wonderful opportunity to do so. It will certainly welcome you with colorful colors and beautiful landscapes.

"Northern Dzhendem" was declared on September 30, 1983 and occupies an area of 1,610.0 ha. It covers the northern slopes of Botev Peak and Rusalka Peak. Its border to the south runs along the ridge between the peaks of Yurushka Gramada and Paradjika (2138.2m) and with it symbolically separates it from the "Dzhendem" reserve.
