The European Diploma for Protected Areas is a prestigious international award granted since 1965 by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Central Balkan is the only Bulgarian park awarded an European Diploma of Protected Areas. This is recognitions of the international significance of the Park, its remarkable natural resources, cultural heritage, traditional social and economic activities and good governance of the territory.  


The decision to award the Central Balkan National Park with the European 
Diploma of Protected Areas was taken on 21 October 2009 by a resolution of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
