Celebrated Water Day together with the fifth graders from the "Vasil Levski" Primary School in the village of Shumata

23 March 2025
On the occasion of World Water Day, employees of the Central Balkan National Park Directorate held educational eco-activities at the primary school in the village of Shumata, Sevlievo municipality. The students had the opportunity to learn more about the importance of protecting and managing the planet's water resources, the place and role of glaciers in the overall picture related to the global water crisis, as well as the importance of forests in the process of protecting water with their water protection, water retention and water regulation functions.

The students took an active part in our educational talk, showing knowledge and interest in the problems related to water resources. They were even more active in practical experiments and getting acquainted with some aquatic inhabitants, indicators of the purity and pollution of water in a given reservoir. The children were truly a good example with their teamwork, which we saw how it is precisely this that underlies the protection of water and glaciers on Earth, since their preservation and proper management are a common responsibility of our modern society.

The event with our friends from Vasil Levski Primary School, Shumata village, gave us the opportunity to unite three significant environmental dates - World Water Day, which is traditionally celebrated on March 22, International Day of Forests, celebrated on March 21, and World Glacier Day, which the world celebrated for the first time this year, again on March 21.
