24 June 2025
At the invitation of the Regional Ethnographic Open-Air Museum "ETAR", experts from the Directorate of the Central Balkan National Park (DNPCB) joined the festivities on the occasion of the celebration of Enyovden, organized by the Museum.

On Saturday, June 21, as part of the new educational program "A Tale of the Power of the Sun, Herbs and Water" of the Museum, the experts of the Directorate presented the lecture "Medicinal Plants of the Balkans - How Much Do We Know Them?", with which they presented to the guests of the event general information about the herbs in the country and in particular the medicinal plants within the borders of the "Central Balkan" National Park. The rules for picking, drying and storing herbs, their application and the biologically active substances in them, from which "their power" actually comes, were also discussed in the lecture part of the experts. The module continued with a practical activity on identifying medicinal plants, with the participants having the opportunity to use all their senses to identify the herbs. All guests of the event were given the opportunity to look at the plants up close through a binocular stereoscope.

On the second day of the holidays – June 22, the Park Directorate participated in a practical workshop on recognizing some of the most common herbs in the country using the specially developed key for identifying the plant by its morphological features. And for the little participants in the event, the park experts had prepared a wide selection of medicinal plants and not only, so that the little ones could make special herbal cards. Thus, they also had the opportunity to get acquainted with and touch some of the most characteristic and beloved herbs of Bulgarians, such as yarrow, thyme, white yarrow, etc.
