Freed bear in Central Balkan National Park

19 May 2023
During the past day, an action was held on the territory of the Central Balkan National Park to release a young bear caught in the area of the town of Gabrovo.
Numerous signals and videos of the citizens of the city of Gabrovo of a young bear entering the territory of the city became the reason for the action. On May 18, representatives of WWF Bulgaria and the Chardafon Hunting and Fishing Society managed to catch the bear in the cage provided by the Central Balkan National Park Directorate. Specialists anesthetized the animal, then examined it, took the necessary measurements (weight, body length, etc.) and fitted a GPS collar. Later, the bear was moved and released on the territory of the Central Balkan National Park.
Thanks to the GPS collar, the representatives of WWF Bulgaria and the Central Balkan National Park Directorate will be able to continuously track the bear's movements and react if necessary.
The Central Balkan National Park Directorate urges not to dispose of organic waste outside designated areas, especially in areas inhabited by brown bears. Don't feed the wild animals! This can be dangerous for both you and the animals themselves.
