Second graders from Gorna Oryahovitsa visited the Central Balkan National Park

04 June 2025
On June 3, 15 children from Gorna Oryahovitsa joined the campaign of the Directorate of the Central Balkan National Park - "With a Ranger in the Central Balkan", visiting the Eco-Trail "Vidimsko Praskalo".

Their kind host was a long-time employee of the park guard, who introduced the young nature lovers to interesting facts about the Balkans and characteristic features of the beech forests in the area of the "Northern Dzhendem" reserve.

"Northern Dzhendem" was declared in 1983. It is the reserve with the highest altitude in the Central Balkan National Park. It is located on the northern slopes of the Botev and Rusalka peaks. The forests in the reserve are not very diverse - the beech is most often found. The forests in these places have an average age of over 155 years and here and there the beech is accompanied by fir, mountain and common sycamore and various shrub species. But "Northern Dzhendem" remains in the hearts of visitors with its breathtaking cliffs and rock formations. Raw and inaccessible, they climb and reach all the way to Botev Peak. These characteristic and unique habitats shelter many different animal species, especially those that love peace away from humans.
