Successfully extinguished fire in the Central Balkan
26 July 2025
On the 24th, shortly before noon, a signal was received about a fire spotted under Maragidik Peak. A hard-to-reach, juniper-covered area within the borders of the Central Balkan National Park in the Stokite park section was burning.
Employees of the Central Balkan National Park Directorate (CNPD), employees of the Rusalka-Apriltsi State Hunting Farm and firefighters from the RSPBZN participated in the extinguishing.
The difficult-to-access terrain required water to be carried in tubes for extinguishing, and the thick layer of peat further complicated firefighting. The probable cause of the fire is lightning.
Thanks to the rapid intervention and coordinated actions between the CBNPD employees and other institutions, the fire was brought under control by the end of the day and did not manage to affect a large area. The Director of the National Park - Georgi Krastev expresses deep gratitude and appreciation to Eng. Dobromir Neykov and the employees of the Rusalka-Apriltsi State Hunting Farm for the assistance provided.
As of July 24, a ban on lighting fires has been introduced within the borders of the Central Balkan, including in designated fire pits. The ban is in accordance with Order 196/24.07.20265 of the Director of the National Park and applies to both the Multifunctional Zone and the Ecotourism Zone.
