We celebrate Earth Day on April 22

19 April 2023
Every year on April 22, stakeholders from around the world unite their actions on sustainability and climate change in honor of Earth Day. Our world needs transformation. And this requires action at all levels – public institutions, business, civil society.

And this year, the theme for Earth Day is Investing in our planet, which highlights the importance of dedicating our time, resources and energy to addressing environmental issues and climate change. The theme is focused on engaging governments, institutions, businesses and the more than 1 billion people around the world who participate in Earth Day events every year, making their contribution. Investing in our planet is the best way to pave the way for a prosperous future. When we invest in our planet together, we support building healthy, happy and prosperous communities around the world.

“In 2023, we need to come together again in partnership for the planet. Businesses, governments and civil society are equally responsible for taking action on the climate crisis and igniting the spark to accelerate change towards a green, prosperous and just future. We must unite in our fight for the green revolution and for the health of future generations. Now is the time to invest in our planet," said Kathleen Rogers, president of EARTHDAY.ORG.

Possible actions of different communities in relation to Earth Day

Homeowners

A sustainable home is a happy home. If you're a homeowner, investing in the planet is as important to the environment as it is to your financial success. Here are some recommendations:
Install a smart thermostat to reduce energy consumption (and your heating bill!);
Switch to LED light bulbs to reduce the amount of power needed to light your home. LED lights last 100 times longer than traditional light bulbs;
Seal windows and doors well to save yourself from unwanted air currents in your home and to reduce your utility bills;
Install a low-jet shower to save carbon emissions as well as energy costs and up to 15,000 gallons of water per person per year;
Learn about the possibilities of composting and reducing the carbon impact of food waste; in addition you will have a free source of soil for your garden;
Plant native plant species and flowers that will help maintain biodiversity while beautifying your outdoor living space.

Parents

Every parent wants their children to grow up to be responsible, considerate and successful adults. Celebrating Earth Day as a family is key to building these values and ensuring that nature and sustainability are an important part of your child's identity.
Have a conversation with your children about the importance of leading an environmentally friendly lifestyle and identify good practices in this direction that your family can introduce into their daily lives;
Go with your family to a planned cleaning in the neighborhood or organize your own initiative in your area or a nearby park;
Plant a flower garden with your kids for a fun, impactful and educational day out.

Schools

Education is the foundation of a prosperous and flourishing civilization. A successful society is one that respects nature and these values are created in the classroom. Teachers are in a unique position to help our children grow into intelligent and responsible citizens. Every school can use Earth Day to ensure that environmental values are passed on to the next generation!
Plan a lesson to educate your students about the climate crisis and how each of us can be part of the solution.

Business

The business world is among the biggest sources of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. On the other hand, however, they stand to gain significantly from sustainable transition. When businesses invest in our planet, they align themselves with the modern economy, invariably leading to a more cost-effective, respected and profitable enterprise.
Invest in sustainable infrastructure for your business;
Switch to electronic document flow as much as possible. Electronic records are a good solution for organizing, managing and tracking documents and require fewer resources;
Offer work-from-home options for employees, increasing the quality of life and work satisfaction while eliminating a significant source of carbon emissions.
